IColor Transfer Frequently Asked Questions

Paul Boody

What are some advantages the IColor 560/650 offer?

The ProRIP software enables the simultaneous printing of white as an underprint and an overprint in a single pass on the same machine. UNINET's distinctive toner blend boasts double the white opacity compared to other brands, ensuring exceptionally bright whites and solid backgrounds to enhance color vibrancy.

The printer comes equipped with a true black cartridge, allowing for a seamless switch to CMYK mode for printing items like brochures and menus where white is unnecessary. Additionally, optional cartridge kits for dye sublimation, fluorescent, security, clear toner, Gold and Silver toner kits, are available.

The IColor transfer series stands out for being the most cost-effective and versatile transfer machines. Unlike ink-based machines, these toner-based systems require no maintenance. A diverse range of media is at your disposal for virtually any project.

Effortlessly switch between regular and specialty cartridges, eliminating the need to invest in separate machines for each function.

What are the differences between the IColor 560 and 650?

The IColor 560 boasts a maximum paper width of 8.5" and incorporates all-in-one print cartridges. On the other hand, the IColor 650 is designed for tabloid printing with a maximum paper width of 11.8" and utilizes toner/drum combination print cartridges. Despite this difference, both machines share remarkable features and benefits.

If you occasionally need to print oversized images using the IColor 560, you can employ the IColor SmartCUT software. This tool enables you to divide larger graphics and designs in a way that ensures a seamless final assembly onto the substrate. For larger prints or higher volume tabloid printing, the IColor 650 is a suitable choice.

What is Overprint and Underprint?

The IColor 560 and 650 possess the capability to print both white as an underprint and an overprint, facilitated by the ProRip software. The software includes a cartridge configuration setup, allowing placement of the white cartridge in either the initial or final slot of the printer. The Underprint queue is ideal for white underprinting and 'right side reading,' where the preference is for a white underbase printed first, followed by color on top—particularly useful for clear or dark substrates. Conversely, the Overprint queue is utilized for white or clear overprinting in reverse print applications, applicable to various transfer scenarios, be it textiles or hard surfaces.

What kind of kit upgrades are there available for the IColor 560 and 650?

Both machines can be enhanced with upgrades for dye sublimation, fluorescent, security, clear toner, silver toner, and gold toner. A seamless transition to these specialty features is achieved by a straightforward cartridge swap, enabling you to promptly commence printing.

What is the IColor ProRIP software and why would I want to use it?

In straightforward terms, the IColor ProRIP software is the key to achieving single-pass printing with white either as an underprint or an overprint. Its pivotal feature lies in enabling the deposition of colors in layers. Unlike conventional printer drivers, which focus solely on the top layer visible to the eye, the ProRIP empowers you to independently manage each layer. This control extends beyond the visible surface, allowing manipulation not only of the top layer but also of what lies beneath, typically the white layer. With the IColor ProRIP, a single machine becomes versatile for printing images with white as an underprint or an overprint. This means you can produce vivid colors on clear or dark media, irrespective of the background, by laying down the white layer first followed by colors.

The 'Color Mapping' feature in the IColor ProRIP facilitates 'Reverse Printing' for garment transfers, where white is applied last. This exclusive capability enables achieving white underprint and overprint in a single pass—an unparalleled feature not offered by any other software and hardware combination in the current market. Moreover, the software provides functionalities like color manipulation and removal, rasterization, white opacity control, substrate color preview, cost calculation, and advanced layout tools.
